Beyond Repair: True Stories of Illinois Flawed Death Penalty
We want to invite you to an educational event that will reveal stories of redemption, forgiveness, and betrayal from those personally affected by the death penalty. It is part of a two-week suburban speaking tour aimed at revisiting the issue of the death penalty ten years after the moratorium.
This live presentation will feature the compelling testimony of men who were wrongfully convicted and later freed from Illinois' death row, like Randy Steidl of Charleston,Illinois, who was released in 2004 when evidence emerged that he had been framed after spending 17 years on death row. Family members of murder victims like Cathy Crino whose sister Stephanie was murdered in 1995, will also share their experience with the system after the death of their loved one.
There will be two locations:
Wednesday, September 15, 7-8:30 pm St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1409 Green Trails Drive, Naperville (Corner of Naper Blvd. & Green Trails Dr.)
Monday, September 20th, 7pm at the Cathedral of St. Raymonds, 608 North Raynor Ave, Joliet.
Sponsored by the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty in partnership with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Naperville Church Women United, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Raphael Catholic Church, Cathedral of St. Raymond, Joliet Diocese Restorative Justice Committee, Joliet Diocese Peace and Social Justice Office.
