The University Mission has been in existence since 1995. The first six years it was based at the University of St. Francis under the direction of Sister Dolores Zemont, OSF.. In 2001, it was expanded by the Peace and Social Justice Ministry to include students from the diocese’s three Catholic Universities (Lewis, Benedictine and St. Francis), as well as our diocesan seminarians. In partnership with the diocese's Office of Campus Ministry, students from the College of DuPage, Elmhurst College, Joliet Junior College and North Central College, are also included in this mission opportunity. While in Sucre, students minister in several orphanages, day care centers, a home for delinquent boys, a home for abandoned boys, the hospital built by the our diocese as well as clinics in the barrios. This is a two week mission/retreat experience usually during June. Applications need to be made through the Campus Ministry office at each university or by contacting Natalie Bayci, Coordinator of University Missions, at ((815- 254-7556) - nbayci@dioceseofjoliet.org . In 2008 the University Mission traveled for the first time to the Philippines. More information on future missions can be obtain by contacting Natalie Bayci.
