Currently, we are focusing on the Global Poverty Act Postcard Campaign.
Everyday 30,000 people throughout the world die as a direct result of extreme poverty. We are called by our faith to respond to the poorest of the poor. The Global Solidarity and Missions Council of the Diocese of Joliet is inviting parishes to distribute postcards for signatures which will then be sent to Senator Durbin asking him to co-sponsor the Global Poverty Act (GPA). The GPA requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to promote the objective of eliminating extreme poverty and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide who live in extreme poverty by the year 2015.
