About Jaime......

Jaime Abastoflor is an almost 8 year old boy whom we firsts met on Medical Mission in April of '95. He has a severe kyphoscoliosis that had been treated only with bracing. After wading through a lot of red tape to meet hospital and governmental regulations, we were finally able to bring Jaime, along with his mother, to the USA for further treatment.

He is, however, a very brave young man who does not complain a lot. They arrived here with the returning medical mission on May 2, and he was admitted to Shriners Hospital for Children on May 12. He spent a week in halo traction after which he had both anterior and posterior spinal fusions on the same day. These are difficult and painful surgeries for anyone, much less a child of Jaime's tender years. He is, however, a very brave young man who does not complain a lot.
He and his mother spent the next 12 weeks at home with the Via-Reque family as he recuperated. He wears a brace and is getting about very well. Jaime also had some dental care while he was here, as did his mother. He has learned all sorts of new things from a few words of English to video games!

To Bishop Imesch we would like to say thank you for your concern, your support and your prayers. To Tom Garlitz, thank you for your faith and your support of this project. To Judy Riley, thanks for your help with all the paperwork.
Gracias! Most of all, we are extremely grateful to Theresa and Enrique Via-Reque for opening their home to Jaime and his mother during their stay here. We cannot thank you enough for all you have done. As you can see, there have been a lot of helping hands associated with this project. We know that there may be others to whom we owe thanks but being human we may have overlooked your name. If we did it was not intentional, and you will be in our prayers as we thank God for all who have cared about this child and his mother. Gracias!
