My experience at the children's home was very emotional.
Upon arriving, the children were darting at the front gate of the home,
their faces were sheer delight, so happy to see us coming to visit with
them. The children reached out their hands for us to pick them up
and be held. They loved the bubbles and the games, but most of all they
just wanted to be hugged. As a couple of hours went by I couldn't help
but notice a little girl named Maria. She seemed to be angry and would
grab the chalk from the other children, pull their hair and simply overall,
she was just an unhappy child. I tried approaching her and she threw dirt
at me and began kicking me. So I left her alone. About ten minutes later
she began to cry and scream. She had wet her pants. So I cleaned her up
and as I was wiping her with the rag, her skin was so raw she screamed
louder. As gently as I could, I put dry clothes on her. She was in pain
from the rash. I held her in my arms and began singing the Lord's Prayer
to her and prayed that my touch and love would comfort her; tears coming
from my heart and eyes, hoping to soothe her. The Lord did just that. Peace
came over me and Maria fell asleep in my arms. Thank you Lord Jesus.
