Dear Sir or Madam:

I would like to comment on the recently released Draft Forest Plan for Shawnee National Forest. Protection of are resources should be the first consideration when the plan is drafted. Thoughts of what we will be preserving for our children and grandchildren should guide our decisions. In this light, I would like to thank you for proposing a prohibition of all off-road vehicle use on the forest. I support a well-maintained trail system on SNF for both horseback riding and hiking with horseback riding limited to designated trails. I support getting rid of undesignated user-made trails that cause erosion. I oppose all commercial timber sales and any new oil, gas, or mineral leasing on Shawnee Forest. I'm also opposed to artificial openings on Shawnee Forest that may cause harm to interior forest species.
Guidelines should be mandatory or converted into standards. Please protect all 80 Natural Areas from incapatible uses (horse riding, motorized vehicles, camping, etc.) and protect high quality streams.[Thomas Garlitz]   Provide for more law enforcement to monitor illegal off-road vehicle, ATV and horse use. May the Final Forest Plan reflect the values of clean air, clean water, and healthy ecosystems.
Thank you for this opportunity to comment.

Sincerely,
