Please Call and Write President Bush and Urge Him to Veto the Secure Fence Act of 2006.
On Friday, September 29, the U.S. Senate passed the "Secure Fence Act of 2006”, 80-19. This bill authorizes 700 miles of new border fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. The bill was originally introduced in the House of Representatives as a piece of their enforcement-only approach.
Nineteen Democrats voted against the bill: Akaka, Bingaman, Cantwell, Chafee, Durbin, Feingold, Inouye, Jeffords, Kerry, Lautenberg, Leahy, Levin, Lieberman, Menendez, Murray, Reed, Reid, Salazar, and Sarbanes.
For years, President Bush has supported a comprehensive approach to immigration reform. Yet, It is expected that President Bush will sign the legislation into law with no comprehensive immigration reform on the horizon.
