ACTION ALERT: Please call State Representative Brent Hassert to vote YES on HB 4748: The Drivers Certificate bill for Undocumented Immigrants For all who care about Justice for Immigrants and Public Safety who reside in the following areas:
Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Crest Hill, Lockport and Fairmont
Next Wednesday, February 15, the Executive Committee of the Illinois House of Representatives will vote on HB 4748: the Drivers Certificate bill for Undocumented Immigrants. This bill would give those without Social Security numbers the ability to drive legally for the very first time. There are over 400,000 undocumented immigrants in Illinois. These are family members and workers who need to drive for their jobs or their families. But without a valid Social Security number, they cannot drive legally in Illinois. These drivers will not take driving classes, will not pass driving tests, cannot get insurance, and are more likely to flee the scene of an accident. Nationally, uninsured motorists cause 14% of all accidents, and over $4.1 billion in insurance losses per year. HB 4748 would give immigrant workers the ability to drive legally and gain car insurance. It is a necessary step for both public safety and immigrant justice. Please call State Representative Brent Hassert at 630/739-7063 (Romeoville) or 217/782-4179 (Springfield)
When you call his office, tell his staff: "I am calling to urge Representative Hassert to vote yes on HB 4748. We need safe roads."
