Update:  House Passes Budget Reconciliation Bill

Thank you for your efforts on the budget reconciliation bill.

February 3, 2006

On February 1 the House of Representatives voted 216-214 to pass S 1932.

While we were unable to stop harmful changes to Medicaid, TANF, child support enforcement and conservation programs, your work communicating to Congress our priority concern for the poor and vulnerable was an invaluable witness.

Thirteen Republicans join 200 Democrats and one independent to vote “no:”

Jim Gerlach, PA.

Timothy V. Johnson, IL

Walter B. Jones, N.C.

Steven C. LaTourette, OH

Jim Leach, IA

John M. McHugh, NY

Bob Ney, OH

Ron Paul, TX

Jim Ramstad, MN

Rob Simmons, CT

Christopher H. Smith, NJ

John E. Sweeney, NY

Heather A. Wilson, NM

Please be sure to thank all members who voted against the bill, especially those who withstood the pressure of their party leadership.

The budget reconciliation conference agreement includes provisions that could be harmful to many low-income children, families, elderly and people with disabilities who are least able to provide for themselves.

The process begins anew—next week, February 6, the Administration will send to Congress its recommendations for Fiscal Year 2007 and then both House of Congress will try to agree on next year’s budget and funding levels.

Thanks again for all your hard work!
