Affordable Housing Week, March 12-19th

Dear Parish Peace & Justice Contact,
Once again religious leaders from around the state are preparing to participate in the annual Affordable Housing Week, March 12-19th. The focus of this year’s campaign is to increase funding for the Family Homelessness Prevention Program. This crucial program has thus far prevented over 35,000 families from becoming homeless. We hope your congregation will participate in this year’s campaign. To facilitate your congregation’s participate we have produced the enclosed campaign materials:

Bulletin Insert: Family Homeless Prevention Program. This camera-ready insert can be placed in your congregation bulletin in conjunction with your efforts to get postcards signed and to enlist people to join the Diocesan Action Alert Network. This insert includes information about the program and makes the case for increased funding. On the bottom are action suggestions. The postcard suggestion has empty boxes below it. This box is for you to include specific information about when, where and how your congregation will provide an opportunity for members to take action. (We suggest you set up tables after Masses for members to sign the postcards.) (download)

Postcard to Governor Blagojevich: Included with this packet is a camera-ready sheet of postcards (front and back). Print these sheets on card stock 8/5”x11” paper and cut into fourths. You can either have people take the postcard home to sign and mail, or have them sign the card before or after services. (download)

Worship Resources: We have included some prayer and worship resource for you to use in conjunction with this campaign. (download)

On behalf of the diocesan housing activists we hope that your congregation will participate in this year’s Affordable Housing Week. If you have any questions or concerns about the campaign or the resource packet, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your consideration.
