Federal Housing Trust Fund Discharge Petition

Network, a Catholic Social Justice Lobby has issued the following:

LAST CHANCE for Representatives to sign the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund discharge petition before Congress adjourns!

If you haven’t already done so, please urge your Representative to signt he discharge petition for the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act (H.R. 1102).  There are now 178 signatures.  For a letter, go to http://capwiz.com/networklobby/issues/bills/?bill=6434696  and enter your ZIP Code in the “Take Action Now” box.  To view the current list of signers, go to http://clerk.house.gov/108/lrc/pd/petitions/Dis11.htm .

Congress is expected to adjourn in a week, so this will be the final opportunity to ask your Representative to sign the petition, which would “discharge” the committee of its responsibility in considering the bill. If at least 218 Members were to sign the petition, the legislation would go directly to the House floor for debate and a vote.  Cosponsors of
H.R. 1102 filed a discharge petition because the House Financial Services Committee has declined to take up the legislation.

The National Affordable Housing Trust Fund would provide communities with funds to help build, rehabilitate and preserve 1.5 million affordable homes over the next 10 years, and would be modeled on the more than 280 successful state and local housing trust funds.  Up to 25% of funds could be used for homeownership activities.
