Action alert: Oppose IL SB0761 Isolated Wetland Protection Act
Isolated Wetland Protection Act
This bill actually provides for weaker regulations at the State level which would replace strong wetland protection already in place in the six collar counties.
Catholic Social Teaching - Care for God's Creation - We are called to be steward's of all God's creation including flora and fauna in our wetland habitats.
Action needed: Call or write your State Representative and ask him to oppose this bill which would actually weaken wetland protection in our area.
Because of a Judicial decision that says that the Federal government can no longer regulate streams, inland lakes etc. and because Illinois doesn't have wetland legislation in place, most Illinois wetlands are unprotected. It is important to pass an Illinois Wetland Protection Act. However, the Isolated Wetland Protection Act that has passed the Illinois Senate and now goes to the House should be opposed by our legislator since it actually reduces the amount of wetland protection in our area. Hopefully, a stronger bill which will allow the level of protection of wetlands in this area to remain strong while providing the same level for areas in other parts of the state can be introduced and passed by both Houses of the IL. Legislature in 2006.
