Vote Captain Training

Every two years, ICIRR runs a voter mobilization campaign called the New Americans Democracy Project (NADP) to build immigrant power in Illinois.  Over the last three election cycles, we registered 80,759 new voters. In 2008 alone, we turned out 144,277 voters.  But it's not enough to vote; our voters are also educated and united.  NADP is about building immigrant power through voting - identifying local issues, meeting with candidates, and holding them accountable at the ballot box.

For the first time this year, we are recruiting 100 VOTE CAPTAINS - dedicated volunteer organizers like you - to do targeted local voter work around the state.  VOTE CAPTAINS receive 10+ hours of in-depth organizing training from experienced campaigners and organizers.  VOTE CAPTAINS will learn how to register voters, recruit volunteers, run phone banks, hold house meetings, meet with elected officials, and turn votes into local power.

Each VOTE CAPTAIN is responsible for turning out 400 VOTERS who sign a pledge to vote with immigrant families on Election DayYour 400 VOTERS could come from your School, your Neighborhood, your Church or Religious Institution, your community organization, or wherever.  This is about building your community's power.  Where will your 400 VOTERS come from?

100 VOTE CAPTAINS  X  400 VOTERS = 40,000 IMMIGRANT VOTERS
