Call your Representative to Support Travel to Cuba!
For decades, the Catholic Bishops of Cuba and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have called for an end to the U.S. restrictions on travel and trade with Cuba because of the suffering these policies cause in Cuba. Now we have the best opportunity ever to finally end the the travel restrictions and increase dialogue between Cubans and people from U.S.
Congressional representatives have unveiled a new bill, HR 4645, that would reinstate our freedom to travel to Cuba. Introduced by Rep. Peterson (D-MN) and Rep. Moran (R-KS), HR 4645 builds on the momentum of last year's widely-supported bill to end the travel ban, which netted 177 co-sponsoring representatives thanks to your advocacy. HR 4645 also includes agricultural provisions to facilitate greater agricultural trade with Cuba. With HR 4645, we now hope to reach the 218 votes needed to make travel to Cuba a reality.
Please call your representative today to help end the travel ban and increase dialogue between the people of the U.S. and Cuba. Upon calling, simply ask that the representative co-sponsor HR 4645. If your representative has already sponsored the bill, please call and thank them. Current Illinois co-sponsors include Representatives Judy Biggert, Tim Johnson, Bobby Rush and Jan Schakowsky.
