WHAT: On February 4th, the Bush Administration released its budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2009. The President's budget proposal slashes funding for programs that serve low-income families and individuals - vital programs that meet the health care, nutrition, and social service needs of the most vulnerable in our nation.
ACTION NEEDED: Click on "Take Action Now " and enter your zip code to contact President Bush and your Members of Congress and:
• Ask them to adequately fund programs in the areas of health care, housing, hunger and economic security.
• Let them know that the budget is a moral document that tells us where we place our priorities as a nation, and that cutting and eliminating programs that serve those with the least among us does nothing to reduce poverty in our nation. Such cuts only serve to exacerbate the problems facing millions of poor families and individuals in our nation.
• Ask them to take leadership in reducing poverty and creating opportunity in your community and in the United States when making budget decisions for fiscal year 2009.
• Let them know that agencies like Catholic Charities cannot alone meet the continued and rising demand for the services you provide; government must help meet the needs of those who are poor and vulnerable.
