Appalachian Solidarity Petition

Forwarded from the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston

The Appalachian region of the United States is being quickly destroyed by the practice of Mountain Top Removal. Besides the horrors done to the land, the residents of this region fare equally devastating losses such as: rapidly deteriorating health, loss of jobs and homes, loss of livelihoods... and the list goes on. I have set up an online petition that asks His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to consider placing a symbol of solidarity with the Appalachian people on
the Popemobile as he travels through the streets of D.C and New York. Although that goal may be unattainable, the effort to gather signatures and raise awareness is valuable in itself.

Please pass this on to your own friends and family so that we may continue to raise awareness about this destructive practice that currently few know about but all contribute to.
