FORWARDED FROM THE U.S. CATHOLIC CONFERENCE OF BISHOPS
Dear Colleagues:
The people working at minimum wage deserve better. In January, both Houses of Congress voted overwhelmingly to increase the minimum wage. Yet, low paid workers are still laboring for $5.15 an hour. Below is an action alert. Please contact your Representatives and Senators and urge them to send a stand alone bill to the President for his signature.
Thanks for all your help!

ACTION ALERT
Tell Congress: Finish the Job on Minimum Wage!
May 15, 2007
Both Houses of Congress, in bipartisan votes in January, passed bills to increase the minimum wage in three steps to $7.25. Yet, here in the middle of May, the bill remains stalled and millions of minimum wage workers are still making $5.15 an hour.
Tell Congress to stop playing politics and finish the job! The House and Senate have already agreed to increase the minimum wage by including it in the recently vetoed Iraq supplemental spending bill.
A minimum wage raise deserves to move forward on its own merits. It is time to send a stand-alone minimum wage bill to the President for signing!
Time is wasting! If the minimum wage were passed into law today, Tuesday, May 15, 2007 a full time minimum wage worker would earn $5.85 an hour on July 15, 2007, $6.55 an hour on July 15, 2008 and finally $7.25 an hour on July 15, 2009.
ACTION: Call your Representative and Senators TODAY 202-224-3121 (Capitol Switchboard)
Tell Congress to stop playing politics with the lives of millions of minimum wage workers and their families. A minimum wage raise deserves to move forward on its own merits. Now is the time to send a STAND ALONE BILL to the President for his signature.
